Description

1802 Draped Bust Half Dollar, O-101, AU53
Friend Provenance, Attractive Key Date

1802 50C O-101, T-1, R.2, AU53 PCGS. Ex: Friend. Tompkins Die Stage 1/1. The 1802 half dollar is a key date in the Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle series and becomes very rare in About Uncirculated grades. Dale Friend was well known for collecting eye-appealing coins, and this example is no exception with a lovely mix of gray, blue, and gold hues. The strike is consistent with the issue, some flat stars and soft wing tips, but the central portions of the design show good detail. Underlying luster shines through the patina in sheltered areas of the coin. PCGS Population: 3 in 53, 3 finer (11/25).
