Description

1803 Large 3 O-101 Half, MS62+
Second-Finest Known

1803 50C Large 3, Small Reverse Stars MS62+ NGC. O-101, R.3. The finest known 1803 O-101 half dollar is the Eliasberg coin that resold in 2006, where it was graded MS63 PCGS. Only one other Mint State piece, in the Stack's January 2002 auction and graded MS62, has appeared on the market in recent times. The present piece, from an old collection, is likely the second-finest known, slightly nicer than the Stack's coin and only marginally below the Eliasberg specimen. This lovely MS62+ specimen has bold design motifs with full borders. Ivory luster on each side accents the brilliant mint frost with faint peripheral gold toning. Census: 1 in 62 (1 in 62+), 1 finer (7/12).
