Mint State 1806/5 O-103 Half Dollar
1806/5 50C MS62 NGC. O-103, R.2. A splendid Mint State example of this scarce overdate variety. Four different overdate varieties are known from tow overdated obverse dies, the second (O-104) being a die that was previously used in 1805. This is an intriguing year for overdated coinage. There is one 1806/5 quarter dollar variety, four different 1806/5 half dollar varieties, an 1806/5 quarter eagle variety, and an 1806/4 quarter eagle variety. A collection of all seven varieties, while not easy, would provide a splendid numismatic exhibit, especially with enlarged illustrations of the date details from all of these coins.This example has fully frosty and lustrous surfaces beneath rich amber, heather, lilac, and pale blue toning. The design features are sharply defined, and the surfaces are exceptional for the grade.(#6077) (Registry values: N4719)
