1806 Over Inverted 6 MS 63 Half Dollar, Ex: Eliasberg
1806 6 Over Inverted 6 MS 63 NGC. Eliasberg. O-111, R.3. A popular variety, also referred to as an 1806/9, this is actually a corrected blunder caused when a worker entered a 6 punch inverted 180 degrees from the normal position. The surfaces on this remarkable specimen exhibit a hint of glossy reflectivity under grayish-brown toning, with flashes of lilac and steel-blue at the margins. Both sides are reasonably well struck, save for the glaring exception of the far right cloud and adjacent wingtip on the reverse. Most known O-111s show far more advanced die wear, especially those displaying a prominent die cud over the E in UNITED on the reverse. Here, only a faint die crack is visible over this letter. Needless to say, this piece represents an important opportunity for the early half dollar specialist.Ex: Eliasberg Sale (B & M, 4/97), lot 1689.
