Description

1807 Draped Bust Half, Brilliant MS63
O-102, T-8, Lustrous and Sharp

1807 50C Draped Bust, O-102, T-8, R.2, MS63 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 2/2. The top serif of Y is higher than T of LIBERTY. This brilliant and lustrous Overton-102 variety is sharply struck, although the reverse die -- in its second use -- shows signs of die wear, with some letters in the legend drawn to the rim. The reverse dentils start to weaken along the left reverse edge. Multiple die clashes exist on each side, most visible at Liberty's throat and on the reverse at F in OF. The surfaces are otherwise smooth and exceptionally unabraded for a Draped Bust half dollar. All stars are pinpoint sharp. The PCGS Select Uncirculated grade places this coin well within the O-102 variety's Condition Census, with only two or three finer examples according to the Tompkins Condition Census as well as Steve Herrman's Spring 2022 Census of die varieties.
