    1795 BD-9 Small Eagle Five, AU50
    Usual Late Die State

1795 $5 Small Eagle AU50 NGC. BD-9, R.5. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/c. The obverse is lightly clashed and the reverse has a prominent die crack through the N in UNITED, terminating at the eagle's breast feathers. The earliest 1795 Small Eagle half eagles have star 1 mostly below the lowest hair curl, and the later varieties have that star left of the lowest hair curl, as on the 1796 and 1797 half eagles. The BD-9 die combination is included in the later group.

This pleasing AU specimen has light yellow-gold surfaces with considerable deep violet patina on both sides. Faint adjustment marks are evident, with scattered handling marks on each side.(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 25ND, PCGS# 8066)
