Description

1795 Five, Mint State Sharpness
BD-3, Small Eagle

1795 $5 Small Eagle, BD-3, High R.3 -- Altered Surfaces -- NCS. Unc. Details. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/b. The 1795 half eagle has an official mintage of 8,707 pieces, but examples were struck until 1797 if not later, since three 1795 die pairs show a Heraldic Eagle reverse. A dozen 1795 Small Eagle marriages exist, and BD-3 is the most available among those. Examples are nonetheless very scarce, especially relative to demand from early type collectors. The present lemon-gold first-year five has a bold portrait, though portions of the eagle show minor inexactness of impression. The obverse is highly attractive. The reverse has mildly bright fields and displays thin marks near the eagle's tail and the ST in STATES.
