1798 $5 Large Eagle, Large 8, 14 Star Reverse AU50 NGC. Breen-6427, BD-3, R.5. BD-3 is the sole 14 Stars Reverse variety, which receives a separate listing in the Guide Book. As is usual for BD-3, the reverse displays a network of slender die cracks that intersect within the shield. This is an attractive and undipped early half eagle with orange-gold toning where luster resides. The devices show only slight wear, and the strike is good although the eagle's head and nearby stars are incompletely brought up. The right obverse field has a trio of minor mint-made lintmarks, but any post-strike abrasions are inconsequential.(Registry values: P4)
