Description
Lovely 1798 Large Eagle Five, MS 63 NGC
1798 $5 Large Eagle, Large 8, 13 Star Reverse MS 63 NGC. B. 4-F, Miller-29, R.4. Despite its status as the most common pre-1800 half eagle, this issue is much more difficult to locate than any of the 1800-1807 Capped Bust Right issues. The typically encountered survivor grades either VF or XF and the present Select BU example is probably among the finest certified survivors of the Miller-29 variety. The surfaces are modestly prooflike with even, olive-gold color. Both sides are quite well struck for the issue and the few trivial adjustment marks (as produced) over the central obverse are not detracting to the overall pleasing appearance. Lightly marked, as expected for the grade, with no sizeable abrasions.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# BFX8, PCGS# 8080, GSID# 8798)
