    Description

    1800 Five Dollar, AU Definition
    BD-2, Reddish-Gold Accents

1800 $5 BD-2, High R.3 -- Rim Damage -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/c. A faint crack connects IB in LIBERTY. Pickup points for this variety include star 13 away from the bust and the upright of the E in STATES left of the cloud space. Renowned early gold specialist John Dannreuther explains: "Since this variety uses a reverse from 1799, one would conclude that this 1800 variety was struck after the one dated 1799. That conclusion would be wrong. ... this variety was struck between marriages for the 1799 variety (BD-6)." The noted damage is seen adjacent to the Y. Otherwise, this AU piece has lovely yellow-gold coloration with reddish accents and strong detail.
