    1800 BD-2 Half Eagle, MS61
    Late Die State

    1800 $5 MS61 NGC. CAC. Breen-6438, BD-2, High R.3. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/d. The obverse has a light crack through IB that continues to the base of E and R. The reverse has clash marks with delicate die cracks from the border to both wing tips. Four of the five 1800 half eagle varieties are from a single obverse die with a Blunt 1 date. The space between clouds 4 and 5 is below the right edge of the upright of the E in STATES on this variety. That cloud space is farther left on all other reverse dies mated with this obverse.
    This pleasing Mint State specimen has brilliant orange-gold surfaces with satin luster and pleasing surfaces showing only minimal marks. Slightly weak at the center as usual. Census: 39 in 61 (1 in 61+), 59 finer (11/12), for all 1800 varieties.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25NW, PCGS# 8082)
