Description
Desirable 1802/1 BD-2 Half Eagle, AU55
1802/1 $5 AU55 NGC. BD-2, R.4. all 1802 half eagles are overdates from two different obverse dies. Those dies were combined with several reverse dies to create eight known die marriages. Four of the eight varieties are common enough, either R-4 or R.5, while the other four are rated R.7.A plentiful variety, BD-2 combines the low centered overdate obverse die with a defective reverse die that has die chips over the left (facing) wing and between the tops of TA in STATES, visible on all known examples. The reverse also has a missing ribbon loop in the eagle's mouth. This attractive representative has smooth green-gold surfaces with nearly full luster and hints of attractive iridescent toning.(Registry values: P2)
