    Extremely Rare BD-4 1802/1 Five

1802/1 $5 Genuine PCGS. Breen-6440, BD-4, R.7. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/b. The PCGS number ending in .98 suggests Damage as the reason, or perhaps one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of an AU specimen that is ex-jewelry and has been damaged and polished. Silver-colored solder is obvious at 12, 3, and 9 o'clock on the reverse, where the piece was once affixed to jewelry. Bright from polishing, and the obverse field displays moderate marks. An extremely rare variety; the Bass-Dannreuther reference states 10 to 12 known.(Registry values: P2, N2) (NGC ID# 25NX, PCGS# 8083)
