Description

Scarce 1802/1 Half Eagle, BD-1, Mint State Sharpness

1802/1 $5 --Improperly Cleaned--NCS. Unc Details. BD-1, High R.4. Since all eight known varieties of 1802 half eagles feature the overdate (although two different obverse dies were employed), this piece can best be identified by the reverse. A star points to the lower beak tip and a leaf points to the I in AMERICA, identifying this variety. Despite a gentle cleaning, the yellow-gold surfaces are remarkably pleasing and have only minor abrasions. Sharply defined with lovely eye appeal.(Registry values: P2)
