Description
1803/2 BD-1 Half Eagle, MS62
Available 1803/2 Variety
1803/2 $5 BD-1, R.4, MS62 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State
a/b showing light reverse die cracks. This is the first use of the
obverse die that remained in production for BD-2 and BD-3. The
reverse die was previously used for 1802/1 BD-7. A second obverse
die, also overdated, was introduced for BD-4. The present piece is
an early die state, while later states have advanced reverse die
cracks, eventually forming a cud over UN of UNITED. This lovely
Mint State example has lustrous honey-gold surfaces with slight
obverse field reflectivity. Scattered field marks prevent a higher
grade.Ex: Goldberg Auctions (2/2007), lot 2246.
