    Description

    1803/2 Half Eagle, AU Sharpness
    BD-4, 'Perfect T' Variety

1803/2 $5 BD-4, R.4 -- Filed, Cleaned -- ANACS. AU Details, Net XF40. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/c. A die crack runs through the base of the date. Four varieties are known for the 1803 half eagle, all featuring a 3 over 2 overdate. This is the only variety with a full right foot on the T in LIBERTY. About 125 to 175 BD-4 half eagles are thought to survive, according to John Dannreuther. This coin features AU sharpness, but ANACS has awarded a net grade of XF40 due to cleaning and rim filing. The latter is somewhat difficult to see because of the small-sized holder. The reverse is deep orange-gold in contrast to the slightly lighter obverse. (NGC ID# 25NY, Variety PCGS# 504951, Base PCGS# 8084)

    Weight: 8.75 grams

    Metal: 91.67% Gold, 8.33% Copper
