Description
1803/2 Five Dollar, XF45
BD-4, Original Patina
1803/2 $5 BD-4, R.4, XF45 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State
c/c with a long, curved crack through the base of the date. Clashed
near the shoulder curl and the left shield point. All 1803-dated
half eagles are overdates. BD-4 is from the second obverse die,
which, unlike BD-1 through BD-3, exhibits a perfect T in LIBERTY.
The T in UNITED is repunched. This originally toned wheat-brown
example displays light wear on Liberty's nose and forehead, but
luster accompanies design recesses. Mint-made adjustment marks are
present near 9 o'clock on the reverse, but relevant post-strike
contact is confined to an obverse rim knock over the E in LIBERTY.Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 504951, Base PCGS# 8084, GSID# 198202)
