Description
Coveted 1803/2 Five Dollar, BD-4, MS62
1803/2 $5 MS62 NGC. Breen-6441, BD-4, R.4. All 1803-dated half eagles are 1803/2 overdates, despite the usage of two distinct obverse dies. Both have a prominent 2 underdigit, but can be distinguished by the T in LIBERTY, which has a broken right foot on BD-1 through BD-3. The T is perfect on examples of BD-4, and equally diagnostic is the slender die crack along the bases of the date. This is a yellow-gold example with hints of lime-green. Well struck, although the reverse has a few faint adjustment marks, as made. No abrasions are consequential aside from two thin marks in the hair. An important contribution to a specialist holding.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25NY, PCGS# 8084, GSID# 8873)
