Description

1804 Capped Bust Right Five, MS63
Small 8, BD-1 Variety

1804 $5 Small 8, BD-1, High R.4, MS63 PCGS. Small 8. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/b, reverse cud. A vertical die crack through 0 in the date and a full cud envelops the top of T in UNITED to indicate the late die state of this BD-1 Small 1, Small 8, Small 4 1804 half eagle. John Dannreuther (and Harry Bass, Jr.) preferred to call it a Normal 8. This Select Uncirculated example radiates mint luster throughout the frosty-smooth and sharply struck surfaces. A loupe reveals a short mark near star 2 in the lower obverse field -- barely visible in-hand. A few tiny ticks are even less apparent while the surfaces, in our opinion, approach the Choice Uncirculated level. PCGS Population: 20 in 63 (1 in 63+), 4 finer (12/25).
