Description
Mint State BD-2 1804 Five Dollar
1804 $5 Small 8 MS60 PCGS. Breen-6443, BD-2, High R.4. The obverse has a bisecting crack from 12 to 6 o'clock, and the reverse has radial cracks at 3 and 10 o'clock that join within the eagle's shield. The T in UNITED is repunched, with the initial T punch perfect. The other Ts in the reverse legend have a missing right foot. This suggests the T punch became defective while repunching the T in UNITED.This sun-gold early half eagle has pleasing luster and a consistently crisp strike. The central obverse exhibits a few unimportant marks, but the overall look is surprisingly unblemished for the MS60 grade. Certified in a green label holder.(Registry values: P2)
