Description

1807 BD-8 Bust Left Half Eagle
MS64, Just 6 Finer at NGC for the Type

1807 $5 Bust Left, BD-8, R.2, MS64 NGC. Green-gold surfaces contain a generous helping of original mint luster, providing excellent eye appeal. Full striking details are present on both sides. A few scattered abrasions exist between stars 2 and 3 and near stars 5 and 6 on the obverse, where an abrasion just right of the eagle's eye exists on the reverse. However, none provide a significant impediment to this example's excellent eye appeal.

The BD-8 die marriage is the most common die marriage of the year, and, at R.2, is the most common die marriage of all denominations of pre-1834 gold. However, this does not negate the scarcity of this series overall, especially in high grade, as only a small number of finer certifications exist. NGC Census (Bust Left): 15 in 64, 6 finer (2/26).
