1807 Half Eagle, Bust Left, BD-8, AU Details
    Rich Original Coloration

1807 $5 Bust Left -- Graffiti -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. BD-8, R.2. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/a. This is the earlier die state for this fairly available variety, though the obverse is clashed from its previous usage for BD-7. This is the final use of this obverse, but the reverse was later employed for the first three varieties of 1808 coinage. The present example displays substantial golden luster amid hues of rich apricot and olive-gold patination. The graffiti noted by PCGS is seen as a few short, crisscrossing pinscratches in the left obverse field, but these are faint and hardly detract from the visual appeal.(Registry values: P2)
