Description
Impressive 1807 Half Eagle, Bust Right, BD-1, MS62
1807 $5 Bust Right MS62 PCGS. BD-1, High R.4. This is the only known variety that features small stars on the reverse. All varieties of 1807 half eagles are scarce, and fewer than 100 examples of BD-1 are believed to exist. Amazingly, Harry Bass owned three representatives of this variety. The present piece is Bass-Dannreuther die state b/c, and has several faint cracks in the obverse margins along with a number of more pronounced die cracks on the reverse. Wonderful satiny luster highlights the crisply struck design elements. The reverse has numerous adjustment marks throughout, but that translates only to minor weakness on parts of the obverse. A remarkably clean and attractive specimen. From The Bell Collection.(Registry values: P2)
