Description

1807 Bust Right Half Eagle, BD-1, AU58
Attractive Final Year Type

1807 $5 Bust Right, Small Reverse Stars, BD-1, High R.4, AU58 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/c. The BD-1 die marriage is the only 1807 Bust Right five dollar gold to have small reverse stars, 'likely a leftover from 1806" as John Dannreuther stated in his early gold reference book. Rich orange-gold toning blankets the lustrous surfaces of this lovely Draped Bust gold piece. Only trivial marks are seen from the coin's brief time in circulation. The strike is solid for the type, with only a little softness in obverse stars 8-13 and some reverse stars, but the portrait and eagle are well-defined.
