1808 Wide 5D Half Eagle, BD-4, Unc Details
Early Die State With Unclashed Reverse

1808 $5 Wide 5D, BD-4, High R.3 -- Cleaned -- NGC Details. Unc. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/a. The A in STATES is centered over the U in PLURIBUS to verify the Wide 5D reverse, and the first A in AMERICA is much closer to the wing than on the Normal 5D reverse. Finely granular, green-gold surfaces retain traces of mint luster around the margins despite the cleaning. Sharply struck motifs on both sides show no signs of wear, with a small nick near the corner of Liberty's mouth and tiny bagmarks throughout the fields.
