    Description

1809/8 Half Eagle, BD-1, Unc Sharpness
    Sharp, Some Luster Remaining

1809/8 $5 BD-1, High R.3 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. Unc. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/b. BD-1 is the only known variety of the 1809 half eagle, employing what has generally been touted as an overdated 1808 head die; John Dannreuther suggests the underdigit may actually be a misplaced 9. This unworn example is boldly and evenly struck, with bright green-gold surfaces that yield some luster in the peripheral recesses. Light chatter in the fields in not overly distracting.
