Description

1809/8 BD-1 Half Eagle, MS62
Unsubstantiated Overdate Die

1809/8 $5 MS62 NGC. BD-1, High R.3. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/b. The sole die variety for the date. The 9 in the date is large and is accompanied by small lumps of raised metal traditionally associated with an underdigit 8, although that consensus is by no means definitive. The reverse die is the Wide 5D carried over from 1808 BD-4. This unmarked and original Capped Bust half eagle is sharply struck and retains substantial mint luster. The surfaces are completely problem-free. Given the rapid rise in value with each succeeding grade, the best value for the type may be found in MS62.
