    Description

    1810 BD-4 Five Dollar, MS61
    Large Date, Large 5

1810 $5 Large Date, Large 5, BD-4, R.2, MS61 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a without cracks or clashes. A charming butter-gold representative. The surfaces are occasional minutely granular, but no marks are remotely consequential. The strike is generally bold, although the claws and other high points exhibit minor blending of detail. A Guide Book collection of early half eagles is out of reach for most collectors, but a date set of the John Reich series (1807 to 1812) can be completed by the specialist. Obtaining all four 1810 marriages is impractical, though, due to the formidable rarity of the two Small 5 varieties, especially the Large Date BD-3. (NGC ID# BFXP, Variety PCGS# 507598, Base PCGS# 8108)

    Weight: 8.75 grams

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
