    Description

    1810 Five Dollar, MS63
    Large Date, Large 5, BD-4

1810 $5 Large Date, Large 5, BD-4, R.2, MS63 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/b. Coruscating cartwheel luster sweeps the olive-green and wheat-gold surfaces. Both sides are refreshingly unabraded. Faint roller marks, as made, are noted on the eagle's shield, but the strike is generally sharp. A later die state for the Large Date, Large 5 variety, which is often selected for type purposes. The Dannreuther reference for obverse die state c describes a crack between the 81 in the date, but close examination reveals it is a die line instead. The terminal Bass-Dannreuther die state, d/c, has not been confirmed in our auction appearances.
