    Lovely 1811 Small 5 Half Eagle, AU58

1811 $5 Small 5 AU58 NGC. Breen-6464, BD-2, R.3. The Small 5 variety is slightly more common than the Tall 5 reverse, but neither is rare. Die state study of the 1811 half eagles is still in its infancy. Considerable study and documentation is necessary to determine the order that these two varieties were coined, or even if any other issues were produced at the same time. The Tall 5 (BD-1) variety uses the same reverse of the 1810 Tall 5 (BD-1) variety. The Small 5 was only used for this 1811 BD-2 variety, and a single 1811 obverse was used for both varieties. Logic suggests that the 1810 half eagles were coined before the 1811 pieces, but some could have been struck after the first 1811 variety. Sharp design details and remarkable green and orange-gold color are hallmarks of this example. A few faint scratches and other insignificant imperfections are visible.(Registry values: P2)

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
