    1811 Half Eagle, Partly Lustrous AU50
    Small 5, BD-2

    1811 $5 Small 5, BD-2, R.3, AU50 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State d/a. The reverse lacks clash marks seen in the later state. Two different reverses were paired with a single obverse die in 1811. Small 5 coins (BD-2) are slightly more available than Large 5 representatives, though both variants appear at auction with nearly the same degree of frequency. Slight friction over well-struck devices explains the technical assessment, but the appeal of this About Uncirculated half eagle is enhanced by partial luster and light yellow-gold coloration. Wispy marks and ticks are normal.
