    1811 BD-2 Five Dollar, MS61
    Small 5 in Denomination

    1811 $5 Small 5 MS61 NGC. BD-2, R.3. Bass-Dannreuther Die State e/b with prominent clash marks on both sides. Although Capped Bust Left half eagles have a reputation for rarity, a complete date collection of the series (from 1807 to 1812) can be assembled without any stoppers and would make a small but impressive display. On the other hand, a complete Guide Book set of the series is virtually precluded by the rarity of two of the four 1810 half eagle varieties. The present straw-gold 1811 example lacks any consequential abrasions. Luster fills the borders and devices. The strike is good though the high points show slight blending.
