    1811 BD-2 Half Eagle, MS63
    Small 5 Reverse

    1811 $5 Small 5 MS63 NGC. CAC. BD-2, R.3. Bass-Dannreuther Die State e/b, with faint clashmarks and a nearly invisible die crack joining stars 9 and 10. A single 1811 obverse die was combined with two reverse dies to strike 98,851 half eagles in 1811, according to Mint records. Of course it is possible that some of those were dated 1810, and it is equally possible that some 1811 half eagles were struck in 1812. This Select Mint State specimen has frosty yellow luster with subtle green overtones, showing only scattered, trivial marks on each side. Minor adjustment marks are evident along the upper obverse border. Census: 26 in 63, 22 finer (6/13).
