    Description

Fully Struck 1811 Small 5 Half Eagle, BD-2

1811 $5 Small 5 MS63 NGC. CAC. Breen-6464, BD-2, R.3. Bass-Dannreuther Die State d/a. The Small 5 half eagle of 1811 is a tad more available than the Tall 5, but not by much. Both are desirable as type coins and far more often seen than many issues of the later 1810s and 1820s. The large mintage exceeding 100,000 pieces, divided by only two die varieties known for the year, helps explain their availability. The surfaces on this Select Mint State piece display pronounced green-gold coloration overall. The surfaces are fully struck, even on the reverse, and there are few mentionable signs of contact. Subdued mint frost prevails throughout. Census: 30 in 63, 25 finer (11/11).(Registry values: P2)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25PH, PCGS# 8109)

    Weight: 8.75 grams

    Metal: 91.67% Gold, 8.33% Copper
