Description

    Handsome 1811 Tall 5 Half Eagle, AU58

1811 $5 Tall 5 AU58 PCGS. Tall 5, Breen-6463, BD-1, High R.3. This 1811 variety shares its obverse with a reverse that was first used with the 1810 Small Date, Tall 5, BD-1 variety. The tall 5 in the denomination hovers over three shortened dentils that touch it at the bottom. This variety is marginally scarcer than the Small 5 1811 variety, although both are fairly common within the realm of early half eagles. This piece shows only the faintest touch of rub on the highpoints, with mellow orange-gold, distraction-free surfaces. The coin is extremely well struck and pleasing, and shows a noteworthy lack of abrasions, large or small, on either side. There are no visible adjustment marks. A handsome coin worthy of a premium bid.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# BFXS, PCGS# 8110)

    Weight: 8.75 grams
