    Description

    Tall 5 1811 Half Eagle, BD-1
    Remarkable MS63 Example

1811 $5 Tall 5 MS63 PCGS. CAC. Breen-6463, BD-1, High R.3. The two varieties of 1811 half eagle share an obverse, while the two reverse dies are differentiated most easily by the height of the 5 in the denomination. The Tall or Large 5 is slightly more elusive than its Small 5 counterpart, though both are scarce regardless of grade. Of course, at the Select Mint State level, "scarce" does not begin to cover this variety's condition rarity. The present coin has strong yellow-gold luster with traces of peach and honey. The strike is solid, and though a few reed marks appear to the left of the profile and a shallow line descends from Liberty's earlobe to close to her neck, the overall eye appeal is strong. For the variety, Population: 12 in 63, 7 finer (11/11).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# BFXS, PCGS# 8110)
