    Description

    1812 Five Dollar, Choice AU
    Wide 5D, BD-1

1812 $5 BD-1, R.3, AU55 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a. The "Wide 5D" variety, the usually encountered 1812 die marriage. BD-1 invariably exhibits a bold curved die scratch within the eagle's shield and left (facing) wing, as issued. The present honey-gold Choice AU example shows slight wear on the eagle's neck and Liberty's curls, but luster dominates design elements. A small flan flaw is near Liberty's mouth, and moderate marks are noted near the D in UNITED.
