    Description

Pleasing Mint State 1812 Wide 5 D Half Eagle

1812 $5 MS61 NGC. Wide 5 D. Breen-6466, B. 1-B, Miller-118, R.3. John Reich redesigned our coinage beginning in 1807 when he joined the Mint. The half dollar and half eagle denominations were his first two projects. The new half eagles were first coined half a year after Reich joined the engraving staff, with the design remaining stable until minor modifications took place in 1813. This is a delightful example of the design type, and although it is relatively common in all circulated grades, is relatively scarce in Mint State. The surfaces are moderately abraded, with brilliant yellow-gold color and wisps of orange toning on the high points. The fields are somewhat reflective in the protected areas.(#8112) (Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 42AM, PCGS# 8112)

    Weight: 8.75 grams

    Metal: 91.67% Gold, 8.33% Copper
