    Narrow Denomination

    1812 $5 MS62 PCGS. CAC. BD-2, High R.4. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/b. The obverse die appears here in its second use, having been lapped after its first use. Light die rust is evident in the left obverse field, with traces of clash marks. The reverse shows die clashing within the vertical shield stripes. This Narrow 5 D variety is quite scarce, with only about 100 to 125 examples known. The other variety survives to the extent of nearly 500 pieces. This brilliant yellow-gold surfaces are fully lustrous with trivial marks, including a small scrape inside stars 1 and 2. The strike is adequate, although not full.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 42AM, PCGS# 8112)
