    Description

    1813 BD-2 Half Eagle, AU58
    Lustrous and Appealing

1813 $5 BD-2, R.4, AU58 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State d/b, clashed and lightly cracked on both sides. BD-2 is the scarcer of the two 1813 half eagle varieties, although it is still a collectible type coin in AU condition. This near-Mint representative offers a bold, even strike with complete border dentils and good definition of the eagle's left (facing) wing. Much luster remains in the fields amid original olive-gold patina, and the design elements exhibit only slight high-point friction. BD-1 and BD-2 share a common obverse die; the reverses are most easily differentiated by studying the placement of the first S in STATES in relation to the E P below. (NGC ID# 25PM, Variety PCGS# 45648, Base PCGS# 8116)

    Weight: 8.75 grams

    Metal: 91.67% Gold, 8.33% Copper
