    1818 $5 AU50 PCGS. CAC. BD-1, R.5. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b with a perfect obverse and cracked reverse. Three distinctive varieties are known for the 1818 half eagles, each about equal in rarity. Those varieties are the 5D over 50, the STATESOF, and the Normal Reverse as offered here. Attractive pale blue toning highlights the devices on this pleasing lemon-yellow specimen. The satin surfaces retain traces of luster. Scattered marks are evident but of no consequence.(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# BFXV, PCGS# 8119)
