    1818 Half Eagle, AU Details
    Rare BD-1 Die Pairing

1818 $5 BD-1, R.5 -- Damage -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b, reverse cracked. BD-1 is one of the rarer 1818 half eagle varieties with just 50-65 pieces extant. The large-diameter Capped Head Left type is scarce in general, and examples are always in demand. This piece is little-worn and boldly struck with tinges of luster in the protected regions. Scattered specks of verdigris appear on each side, although it is a number of small, faint scratches in the fields on both sides that precludes a numeric grade from PCGS. Linear depressions on Liberty's cheek are mint-made adjustment marks.
