Lovely STATESOF Variety

1818 $5 STATESOF, BD-2, R.4, AU58 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/a. As Harry Bass described this die state in his Notebook "Faint embryonic die crack above and below earlobe." This is the STATESOF variety, with TAT widely spaced. Honey-gold with olive overtones, the coin has a lovely appearance. Lightly abraded surfaces with scattered marks on both sides. Frosty luster is prevalent in sheltered areas of the coin. Fully struck, this specimen displays well-formed design details on both sides.
