Description
1818 BD-2 Half Eagle, MS61
STATESOF Guide Book Variety
1818 $5 STATESOF, BD-2, R.4, MS61 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die
State c, as usually seen with a bisecting obverse crack that passes
through star 6 and the second 8 in the date. The 1818 is a better
date. Three scarce die marriages exist, and each commands separate
listing in the Guide Book. BD-2 is the STATESOF variety. The
diesinker entered the TAT in STATES widely spaced, and was then
obligated to enter the remaining letters with close spacing. The
present apricot-gold representative displays ample radiant luster
and is free from distracting marks. The strike is sharp, and there
are no flan imperfections. A quality choice for the early gold
specialist.Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 519912, Base PCGS# 8121, Greysheet# 351783)
