1826 Gem Half Eagle--One of the Premier Coins From the Carter Collection

1826 MS 65 NGC. Another rare date in this, the most challenging series in all of U.S. numismatics. Akers claims that "most known examples are uncirculated, many of them gems," but we have not found that to be true. According to the most recent census data from NGC (11/97), this is the only MS 65 certified with 2 others in MS 66 (one each by each service).
The surfaces of this coin are nothing short of remarkable. In fact, of all the coins from the Donald Carter Collection, this piece is the favorite of two catalogers (MVW & GL). Fully lustrous, each side is virtually devoid of blemishes. The striking details are fully brought up in all areas, and the natural green-gold color of the coin has taken on an ever-so-slight overlay of reddish patina. Simply outstanding quality overall and a coin with great visual presence.

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
