    Description

    1814/3 BD-1 Half Eagle, AU53
    Scarce Overdate, Ex: Farouk

1814/3 $5 BD-1, High R.4, AU53 PCGS. Ex: King Farouk. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/c. Both sides are cracked and clashed. The 1814/3 half eagle is a popular overdate issue struck from a single die pair. The reported mintage stands at 15,454 coins, but John Dannreuther suspects the actual total struck may be as low as 10,000 pieces. Of those, only 80 to 100 examples are though to survive.

This 1814/3 five dollar from King Farouk holdings maintains glowing mint luster around the stars, legends, and central devices. The overall impression is bold with areas of localized blending on the highest curls and olive leaves. Warm orange-gold color heightens the appeal.
Ex: King Farouk; Palace Collections of Egypt (Sotheby's, 2/1954), lot 233.
    From The Maurice Storck Collection.
