Part of Proof Set1857 10C Dime PR66 NGC. Part of the challenge presented by an 1857 proof set is the absolute as well as condition rarity of the coins included in the set. In the case of the dime, it is estimated that 70 pieces were struck. Probably 30 to 50 pieces are known today in all grades. This is among the finest. Rich golden-rose and cobalt-blue toning is seen over the obverse, while the reverse is mostly golden with just a bit of peripheral blue. The bright mirrored fields flash forcefully through the toning and leave no doubt about the proof status of this piece. Full definition on the devices further confirms it. There are no mentionable or noticeable contact marks on either side. Census: 4 in 66, 3 finer (11/12).
