Cent to Trade Dollar 1878 Proof Set
    PR62 to PR66, Four Proof-Only

1878 Cent to Trade Dollar Proof Set PR62 to PR66 NGC. An eight-piece set of the minors and silvers of 1878 as they were struck prior to the introduction of the Morgan dollar. Of note is that out of eight coins, four come from proof-only issues. The set includes:

Cent PR64 Red and Brown. Luminous copper-gold with generous blue at the upper obverse and central reverse. Great eye appeal with just a few small hairlines.

Three Cent Nickel PR65. From a proof-only issue, mildly contrasted with center-toning in pale yellow on the obverse and deep orange on the reverse. Of the excellent quality respected by serious collectors.

Five Cent Nickel PR66. From a proof-only issue, coated in pale apricot and lavender-blue patina; the best-preserved coin in this set, according to NGC.

Dime PR64. Toned gold on the obverse with orange and blue elements added on the reverse. Contrast is close to Cameo quality.

Twenty Cent PR63. A proof-only issue (and the end of the series), edge-toned with areas of blue, violet, and champagne.

Quarter PR63. Light gold patina on the obverse with richer color on the reverse and aspects of blue. More attractive than the Select designation might suggest.

Half PR62. Richly toned with hazy patina that has pale gold elements over gray. The grade-defining hairlines are half-hidden by the toning.

Trade Dollar PR64. A proof-only issue and the first of several to end the series. This is the most prestigious coin of the set and has light gray inner toning and gold edge patina.
