1895 Proof Set: Select, Choice, and Gem Quality

An 1895 Proof Set, NGC Certified. Included are:

Cent PR64 Red and Brown NGC. The obverse is mostly lustrous with pinkish-orange and glossy-brown colors, the reverse is attractively toned in mottled glossy-brown shades. Glassy fields are evident on the obverse.

Nickel PR64 NGC. This is a moderately reflective near-Gem whose surfaces are dusted in golden-gray patina.

Dime PR64 NGC. Both sides are richly toned in olive and charcoal colors with a few areas of near-brilliance noted throughout. Sharply defined, as befits a specimen striking.

Quarter PR65 NGC. This is a wonderfully original representative with a rich overlay of lavender-charcoal patina and flashy apricot and blue undertones on the obverse. Shimmering reflectivity is seen in the obverse field as the coin rotates beneath a light.

Half Dollar PR64 NGC. There are no singularly mentionable blemishes on either side of this antique-copper specimen. The razor sharp strike is superior to that often encountered on business strikes of this type.

Silver Dollar PR63 NGC. The fabled 1895 Morgan Dollar is the key to this popular and widely collected series. No business strikes are known, and survivors from the 880-piece proof delivery are the only representatives of this issue available to date collectors. This lot offers a richly toned example whose surfaces are toned in dominant antique-copper colors with a splash of lighter patina over Liberty's cheek. The underlying surfaces are bright, neither side reveals an excessive number of hairlines for the assigned grade. An appealing coin for the specialist who appreciates originality.
