1798 Quarter Eagle, BD-2, Choice AU
1798 $2 1/2 AU55 NGC. BD-2, R.5. Bass-Dannreuther Die State
a, not cracked on the obverse. The Five Berries reverse variant,
more accessible than the Four Berries or BD-1 but rare nonetheless.
(With a recorded mintage of just 1,094 pieces, such an outcome is
expected, though of course the erratic use of dies in the early
days of the U.S. Mint complicates all attempts at extrapolation.)
NGC has designated this BD-2 example as Choice AU. Generous
sun-gold luster is semireflective on each side and wear is minimal.
The obverse is lightly abraded, while the reverse shows a
significant scrape just south of 3 o'clock.(Registry
